In-house counsel of four Singapore companies listed in Chambers and Partners ranking

The individuals are recommended by private practice lawyers, third-party advisers and their in-house peers.
Four in-house lawyers from four Singapore companies were among the 36 individuals of leading in-house lawyers in the Asia-Pacific, indicated the rankings from Chambers and Partners, an independent legal research company.
They hail from different industries: finance, aviation, real estate and telecommunications.
The lawyers are: Loretta Yuen from OCBC, Natasha Sulaiman from Singapore Airlines (SIA), Wan Kwong Weng from Mapletree Investments and Shantini Sanmuganathan from Singtel.
The rankings showcase in-house lawyers who have made “outstanding contributions” to their companies, industries and legal professions, said Chambers and Partners. The individuals are recommended by private-practice lawyers, third-party advisers and their in-house peers.
Here are more details about the four:
Loretta Yuen, OCBC

Yuen serves as general counsel at OCBC, which she joined in 2001. She has more than 20 years of experience in the banking sector and became the lender’s lead lawyer in 2015. She was recommended for her skills in navigating complex regulatory challenges, said Chambers and Partners.

She is also head of group legal and compliance where she oversees regulatory risks, including anti-money laundering, the bank’s website showed.
Natasha Sulaiman, SIA

Sulaiman is vice-president of legal and compliance at SIA, a role she has held since 2019, after she joined the national carrier in 2015.

Her expertise spans employment, data protection, regulatory and competition issues.
Wan Kwong Weng, Mapletree Investments

Wan joined real estate giant Mapletree Investments as general counsel in 2009. Prior to the role, he served as key legal adviser at chipmaker Infineon Technologies for several years.

He is also group chief corporate officer, Mapletree Investment’s website showed. He has been praised for his commitment to pro bono work, Chambers and Partners said.

Wan was conferred national awards on more than one occasion, receiving the Public Service Medal in 2012 and the Public Service Star in 2017.
Shantini Sanmuganathan, Singtel

Sanmuganathan is the telco’s group general counsel, a post she has held since 2011.

She is based in Singapore and helms a team of lawyers that oversees data protection, intellectual property, and restructuring issues, among a host of leagl matters.
